 In the 1970's, when Lynne Cherry illustrated this book, she lived in a 1780's farmhouse in Marlborough, Ct. Behind the house was this stone wall. She sat and painted it one sunny summer afternoon and, as she was painting this illustration, a chipmunk poked its head out from the rocks, leapt up on top of the wall and ran across it. |
