Lynne Cherry

In the 1970's, when Lynne Cherry illustrated this book, she lived in a 1780's farmhouse in Marlborough, Ct. Behind the house was this stone wall. She sat and painted it one sunny summer afternoon and, as she was painting this illustration, a chipmunk poked its head out from the rocks, leapt up on top of the wall and ran across it.

Chipmunk Song Written by Joanne Ryder and Illustrated by Lynne Cherry

In this lyrical poem by Joanne Ryder, we spend a year with a chipmunk as it comes up from its hole in the spring, gathers berries and hides beneath the stone wall in the summertime, gathers acorns in the fall and hibernates in the winter.
